2017 BMW X5 Vs. 2017 Mercedes GLE Class

Dare to Compare: 2017 BMW X5 Vs. 2017 Mercedes GLE Class

As BMW and Mercedes are two of the most reliable automakers on the market today, the race between their vehicles is generally very tight. The BMW X5 and the Mercedes GLE Class are both mid-size luxury SUVs, and both are wonderful options. However, the X5 does pull ahead in a few areas.

Starting off with the powertrain options, the race between the X5 and the GLE is neck and neck. The range of these vehicles’ powertrain options goes from a turbocharged V6 engine to a V8 engine with plug-in hybrid variants as well. One of the bigger differences in this category, however, is that the GLE350 is offered with a 302 horsepower, 3.5-liter engine, while the X5 options are outfitted with turbos.

With that said, the biggest difference between the two options comes in a place that matters a lot to many SUV drivers--space. The 2017 X5 is able to seat up to seven people, making it great for families. But, the 2017 GLE Class is only able to seat up to five people, with the larger option being left to the GLS Class.

As these vehicles are very similar, the size of the BMW X5 is the biggest factor in determining why it is the winning choice.
